As I said I was going to visit South Africa to see potential locations for Betty’s Mountain Top! I flew on Virgin Airways to Johannesburg which I wasn’t impressed with at all. The cabin staff was very frumpy looking, plus the entertainment system didn’t have any movies of substance at all (which was very disappointing and surprising). My next stop was Plettenberg Bay which took 2 hours on a small plane. This town is very up market with a population of 32 thousand, it is 500 Km from Cape Town and 1,150 Km from Johannesburg. I was visiting The Kuthuma Eco Village and Forest Reserve. A lady by the name of Ruby Ovenstone bought and started to develop this property 23 years ago.
The property is 160 hectares and 395 acres. It is absolutely beautiful and is in the forest, surrounded by beautiful mountains, lovely deserted beaches close by, and a number of people from Cape Town have built very unique holiday homes there. The full time residents consist of primarily artists, plus yoga teachers and healers etc.
How Ruby found and developed this starting 23 years ago, I think was quite a feat! I am spending the week gathering information, meeting people etc. Ruby has decided to move on to other things, so we shall see lots to check out.
So more to come!!
