MORELIA AND AJIJIC

Well, it has been a whirlwind!

I went to Morelia, had a good time, and met the four people that answered my Facebook request about looking for another place to live.

Morelia is a city of nearly 900,000 people, a UNESCO Heritage site, and very pretty with lots of stones — pink stones. I stayed in the centre of town, which was very helpful as I could walk all over the city.

The only thing I found cheaper were the taxis; Uber was big there. Apartments were the same price. Restaurant meals were more expensive and I could not find anywhere near the same selection of restaurants.

On Sunday, I went to one of the sidewalk cafés near the Plaza for breakfast. It was very busy with parades that lasted a long time. I was there for about three hours and only saw one gringo. I was told there are about 3,000 in the city, but they stay very much to themselves and do have a coffee get-together every Thursday. This is very different from Ajijic, where I am told we have about 15,000 gringos and the surrounding towns. Ajijic itself has a total population of about 12,000.

So, I didn’t find a place to live in Morelia, but came back here and luck was with me. An apartment right beside Namaste, in the centre of town, was available. It happens to one of the homes of James Twyman, the founder of Namaste, for when he is in town. He is away for a good part of the year writing books, seeing family, making movies and attending speaking engagements; James is a true entrepreneur!

So, I have all the rooms on the first floor. James is upstairs and we share a kitchen. This is perfect for me as I can have my meals at Namaste for a great rate and the food is very good. Jett from Winnipeg and his husband Luis do a brilliant job with the kitchen …the meals are excellent. I move in early November! Back to where I started in this town five years ago at Namaste. But now I am not in Namaste but next door, which is perfect.

I want to give a big shout-out to thank Rev. Penni Honey. Rev. Honey who is assistant spiritual director at Namaste, also in charge of the Unity Church, and an absolute dynamo!

Happy Halloween!
