GREETINGS FROM MEXICO…and a Man Larger Than Life: THE LATE MAYOR MEL LASTMAN!

Numerous friends contacted me the other day to inform me of the passing of Mel Lastman, former Mayor of Toronto. They knew we used to work together. He wasn’t always the easiest guy to work with, but there was never a dull moment; very boisterous, and flamboyant. Mel had a good and massive heart.

My best story about Mel? I was attending a 10:00am meeting in his office with the Mayor and his wife Marilyn, who passed away a couple of years ago. Well, to go on…it was Marilyn’s birthday. All of a sudden the door to his office flew open, and a male stripper ran in to surprise Marilyn. Of course Mel had arranged this. The drapes in his office were wide open. Mel could have cared less. He enjoyed every minute of this…and I just tried to stay in the corner.

May he RIP!!  He was a special character who did a lot of good things for Toronto.

Well, as you all know, I am still in Mexico and am loving it in every way: the weather, the culture and the wonderful friends. May you all have the very best holiday you can! BE SAFE, BE WELL…and be grateful for the family and friends in your life—plus all the small things that make up every day.

Big hug, and thank you for reading my blogs!
Love
Betty

  2. Hi, glad to hear about the friends you have made, sorry that you lost a friend. I visited a friend in a nursing home yesterday and I think your friend Mel Lastman got the better deal…nursing home life is pretty bad.

I booked a flight down for early April and left the return date open…I hope to stay at Namaste. So, lunch? I’m giving some thought to permanently living in Ajijic…it’s a tough decision but I am an adventurous person and things do get repetitious here and my son lives in Guadalajara.

    Be well and happy holidays.
