WONDERFUL SENSE OF COMMUNITY IN AJIJIC!

I continue to be blown away by the sense of community In Ajijic and the friendly Mexican people!

The other evening I was sitting in the plaza, which is the community square, with my friend Ravi. There were fireworks and a parade, and bells ringing…all in the direction of the church. We finally asked what was happening and were told there was a new priest being installed at the church. As we walked home there were hundreds of people, all with food that had been cooked by the community and offered free to everyone in the plaza. What a sense of community!

The only places in the world I have seen this happen are parts of India and Africa. It says to me that the so-called have-not countries are the most generous. The next day was Palm Sunday. Another parade! Jesus arrived on a donkey surrounded by his disciples. For me it doesn’t matter what one believes in…it’s the caring that matters.

I now live in the centre of town and am surrounded by the Mexican community. We try to communicate, but my lack of Spanish is an issue; I need more lessons. Languages have never been my strength. When I was travelling I could get away with my smile and my charm, but feel I need to make the effort here. So stay tuned!

Love
Betty

P.S. I am also applying for Non-resident status in Canada…if approved, it should save me taxes!

  1. Betty, this is a happy story.

Have you resolved your issues with Manulife so that you can cash out your shares?

Today would have been Tomiko’s birthday, so I am sitting here in my apartment with my thoughts in the sky.
